Marriage and Family: God’s Design within His Creation Actually Works

God’s commandment to mankind through our first parents, Adam and Eve, was to ““Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth (Genesis 1:28).”  This was to be accomplished through marriage, for God made one man to go with one woman, and said through the writer of Genesis “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh (Genesis 2:24).”

Our culture, on the other hand, fights against this design by discouraging marriage and faithfulness to one woman, encouraging couples to be selfish and not have many children (if any), and even to KILL their own children within the womb if their conception happened “unintentionally”.

What happens when a culture fights hard against God’s design?  Cultural death.  California (which has one of the highest abortion rates in the nation) is starting to face a major problem due to… wait for it… lack of children!  The baby boomers are retiring and the birth rate has dropped below the replacement level of 2.  Check out this interesting story from the Wall Street Journal.

Even opponents of Christianity should give credence to the reality that a culture of rampant selfishness in the area of marriage and children is self destructive.  This is in accordance with God’s design as revealed in the Bible – which makes a lot of sense if the God of the Bible created the world.
